Thanks for giving me a little push to read Dickens. I once forced myself through A Take of Two Cities, and I felt a great deal of satisfaction and also a desire to never, ever do that again. But I’ll give GE a go! I knew all but one of the vocabulary words, and I am not English Lit deprived, so I have not felt any loss.

Oh good! I'd love to hear how it goes for you. When I was first dipping into Dickens, it helped me to remember that he is funny (like Jane Austen) -- because for some reason I had this impression that Victorian/British lit was all serious. I don't know whose fault that is. ;) So when I came across snarky or goofy sentences I was a little thrown off at first, thinking, "Wait, did that mean what I think it means?" Once I realized there was so much quirky, dry humor, I was able to enjoy and understand it more.

Have you ever watched “The Man Who invented Christmas”? It’s a movie about his writing “A Christmas Carol” and it is both entertaining and touching. Though of course he did not “invent” Christmas.
